A song for the wounded villain

My YA WIP has a villain, as every good story does. She’s the ten-year-old’s mother.

How can a mother be a villain, but not a wicked step-mother flat stereotype? She viciously, emotionally abuses Mark, her only child. Daily, she comes home and yells at him. He does nothing right in her eyes. She condemns him for his kid-messes to his looks. She got pregnant in college and had to drop out. (1970). His looks favor her family, Mexican immigrants and she turned her back on her heritage. She wants to be caucasian.

How does it feel to be the mother of a child you hate as much as you hate yourself?
