Classes started up again, so I’ve been focused on math, which is using up all my bandwidth (angular momentum oy!). Which really isn’t a good excuse for not adding words, but I’ll stick with it anyway.

Excuse me for bothering you, but this is important

The great and wonderful [info]dina_james, who makes my drafts bleed to make them better, posted a very thoughtful take on the gay fairy story debacle the internets is all up in arms about.

Yes, be angry. Yes, punish this bigoted small minded editor. But don’t punish the publisher or other authors that had the bad luck to have worked with her on other projects. It really isn’t their fault. Really it isn’t.

Whew, that was hard on the emotions

Wrote my big climax that finishes off my protag’s time in Seattle.

Whew! I feel like it was Me who has been through the wringer. I think I need a break to calm down. Time for lunch.

Sorry, there’s no excerpt today. I have to save the best parts for the book or nobody will buy it. Only myself and my betas until I get an agent for this puppy. 🙂

My poor protag…

Very productive week so far. I have written all the scenes leading up to the big Ka-Boom that pushes my poor protag to run away from home back across the state to his grandma. Mark has lost his best friend, been kicked out of his favorite place-the library, only his mother having her fit is left to rip away everything from him.

And this writer is full of evil glee at the prospect.

Here is the library scene for your perusal. Standard disclaimers apply*.
Set up: Mark wanted to show Jade, his familiar cat, his favorite place-the local library. He goes to this place so often some of the librarians know him by name.

Jenn Webb on Ebook pricing

This is the second time I’ve read about pricing a book by chapters, and it is an intriguing idea. Not that writing is more work than music, but to me a CD with 10 songs is similar to a book with 10 chapters. I kind of like the idea, it means that you can get a decent amount for your work.

Yes, I did add words as promised. Homestretch now, racing to the finish.

Killed one of my darlings today.

Two betas told me about the same thing about the beginning of my story. Specifically,  I had the story start in the wrong place. Common right? Yeah, but I *liked* where I started it. I still think it introduces my progag just the right way. I’ve thought about it for months, and today, I reworded the start of the third page to introduce them and I chopped of the 600+ words off.

And you know what, this start-point is better. It’s tighter and the first confrontation happens sooner. Sigh, they were right. Lesson learned: listen to your betas and kill your darlings, dears, kill them.

What I chopped

Well, sometimes life sucks and rocks at the same time.

the bad

I took my math final and blew it. So much for getting at least a B out of the class. I was in tears all the way home. Word to the wise, don’t have a fight with your hunnybun and have to arrange last-minute babysitting change-of-plans the morning of a big test. You will be so stressed your mind will freeze, no matter how much you studied. 😥

the good

With finals over, I am now in spring break, so I now have more time to write. Whoo Hoo!

Hunnybun and I are discussing continuity issues and I added words to earlier scenes to keep the reader from being shocked out of the story from any rude surprises.

My poor protag is back home in Seattle, now, with his familiar cat, Jade, and he’s losing his best friend because Mark’s a wizard and he isn’t. Mark’s been through the hell of his parents blow up about him being a wizard. His friendship will fully die next, then a big blow up with his mother that will drive him completely out of his parents home.

Poor Mark. He’s not in for a good time.
