Short n Sweet Report from the Writers Retreat

This is the second time I’ve gone to the Cascade Writers Retreat. It went well. I got to see some awesome people I met their last year and had lots of fun. Getting away from everything, including the internet, was so very nice. I feel like my writing well got replenished.

Regarding the workshop part where the editor saw the 1st chapter of my current WIP, my group leader liked it and compared it to the Sookie Stackhouse and Stephanie Plum novels. Oh yeah, compare me to two HUGELY successful series. Go ahead, my ego won’t mind at all. 😀

I’m off…

Heading to the Washington coast this afternoon for the Cascade Writers Workshop. I’m looking forward to seeing the great people I met last year and meeting new ones too. Service is spotty at best there, so you may not hear anything from me until I get back on Sunday.

Life has gotten a bit stressful recently, so I hope getting away from home will help me regain my stress points, because I still feel strung out and beat. Maybe listening to the ocean for four days will help….or drive me fully crazy…either way-improvement! lol

Yes, there is a proper use of slash fan fic

Another post from me already? Doesn’t that make three this week? No the world isn’t ending, I just found something…

I just knew all of you were curious, so yes there is a correct usage for Strunk and White fan fic.

P.S. Precious few words added since last report. I’m at 1,140 words.

The very last Harry Potter movie

Hunnybun, me and the two boys, my 11 yr old and his 16 yr old, went to the theater today to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II.

The unanimous opinion is that it is worth paying the ticket price to see it. It was visually stunning, and the plot doesn’t even catch its breath, much less slow down. In this world of wow-CGI movies this one had so much more impact than even Avatar. That movie was beautiful, but the story was simple, lacking the heartfelt depths that Rowling reached in the climax of her epic tale, The Deathly Hallows. The books were wonderful and amazing in their level of greatness, and this final movie reached that same standard.

A bow to Ms. Rowling for giving the world of writing an impossible standard to reach for. We will all be better for it.

WIP…Take Two!

Because I’ve decided to write my story in two 1st person POV, I decided it would be easier just to start over again, so I did. I started a fresh file, and kept the old one for reference, if I need it. The plot line is the same, so that hadn’t changed.
The writers retreat will just have to give me feedback on the plot line, oh well.

So much for the progress I made already, good thing I’ve done this multiple times already.

Hey, I’m 1% done already, whoo hoo!

887 / 80000 words. 1% done!

FML = F**k My Life

What a lovely day……

It started with my mother asking me if I’d read some legal documents jerk-face had served at my home. I told her no, but would read them. She them proceeded to yell at me then hung up. My dad called next, ordered me to bring the documents over to my parents’ house immediately and hung up on me. I called back and told him that I wouldn’t be bringing them over, he proceeded to start yelling at me and I hung up on him.

Hunnybun and I went to the mall that afternoon for clothes shopping, he needed shirts, and stopped by the verizon store to upgrade his phone. The PYT (pretty-young-thing) that began waiting on him, told him she had an appointment and to wait for someone else to come over and help him. He waited; and waited; and waited. No one came over. When I showed up he told me and I said there were three people out front of the store standing there. Hunnybun went to one of them and they bushed him off back to the original girl who had another fluff-brained PYT. When this girl walked out of the back, I saw her clearly make a disgusted face when she saw my hunnybun standing there. Well, she barely did anything, all with a bad attitude so that we decided to give up. Hunnybun was so angry he turned around and demanded to see the manager. Some of you have met him, so you know just how bad this was for him to get that angry. The manager wasn’t any better and long story short, Hunnybun has called verizon directly to complain.

At the end of today, I got my kid back from his dad (he’s been with his dad since July 5th) tired, acting like he had not had his medicine and with ringworm in two places. My ex told me he had treated it with over the counter athlete’s foot medicine. I took Brandon to an after-hours clinic and got prescription topical that should clear it up in about a week. If it doesn’t, I’m to bring him back at two weeks from today. So jerk-ex could’ve brought him into a doctor himself, and *supposedly* cleared this up a long time ago. That’s assuming he had it on the 5th, which I doubt down to my toenails.

Forgot to mention, my kid had a meltdown over taking a shower tonight and screeched at me for over an hour.*

Right now, I am drinking adult beverages to stop the twitching.

*Please note my son has Oppositional Defiant Disorder before you post any discipline advice. Unless you have a child with the disorder (ADHD doesn’t count) or you have specialized training you can’t understand that common parenting methods only make the situation worse.

One of my twitter friends was kind enough to send me an invite to Google+ so I’m there now. I’ve found lots of my writer friends there, but precious few of any other type of person I know. Let’s see how this shapes out.

If any of you follow me and want to join in on this experiment, send me you e-mail address in a LJ message (don’t post it below).
